GALEDFFRWD MILL / MELIN GALEDFFRWD
The mill was constructed in 1938 and use to contain a 35'dia waterwheel to provide power for an electric railway upto Penhryn slate quarry, in the 1960's the railway was abandoned in favour of road transport for the slate. The mill became redundant and fell into disrepair over a period of 40 years. No one knows what happened to the wheel (probably scrapped) only the axle was in place when we arrived. This is a brief pictorial view of the conversion project.
THE COMPLETE RENOVATION PROJECT WAS CARRIED OUT BY SHIRLEY AND JEFF OVER A 2 YEAR PERIOD.

January 2011 new project
I'm attempting to build a small 6' waterwheel, when I've stopped wondering how and actually screwed some bits of wood together I'll put some pictures here.
It was one of those eureka moments, I suddenly realised that with 8 segments, the 16 angled cuts on the side boards had to be 22.5degrees to make 360degrees. Not sure what happened but its ended up 7' instead of 6'.
Nearly finnished, waiting for 2 steel hubs to be laser cut.

Its a lot heavier than I thought it would be, a bit of a challange to get it down to the river where I've started building the framework to hold it and support the waterchute over the top

It actually works, Im amazed, pats himself on the back and puts the kettle on. Now the tricky bit is how to generate some electricity. Google, YouTube & ebay should help
